Barantin flags off 30 tons of Maluku fishery commodities for export

Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA) - Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) Head Abdul Kadir Karding flagged off 30 tons of Maluku fishery commodities worth Rp4.3 billion (US$234 thousand) for export to the United States, Singapore, Japan, and Vietnam to boost the region's flagship competitiveness.

According to him, the shipment consisted of 29 tons of tuna and one ton of mud crabs.

"Today, we are exporting approximately 30 tons of fish valued at around Rp4.3 billion (US$234 thousand). We continue to encourage this activity, as I believe the potential is immense," he said while flagging off the export on Tuesday.

He noted that the exported commodities, including yellowfin tuna and fresh mud crabs, had undergone rigorous inspections to meet international market requirements.

Karding stated that Maluku holds great potential to be developed into a major Indonesian fisheries hub, given its archipelagic nature and abundant marine resources.

Barantin is committed to helping local governments and businesses improve the competitiveness of Maluku's commodities, including by speeding up export processes at ports and airports.

He added that the agency also supports businesses, fishers, and farmers by providing guidance to help their products meet the standards of destination countries.

Based on data from the "Best Trust" application, the value of fish exports from Maluku in 2025 reached approximately Rp805 billion (US$43 million).

Meanwhile, from January to August 2026, the value had already reached around Rp850 billion (US$46 million).

"This indicates a significant increase in exports from Maluku," Karding noted.

He underlined the need to encourage the growth by increasing export volumes and developing other commodities that have not yet significantly penetrated international markets.

Barantin also planned to strengthen routine oversight while facilitating a fast and effective export process, without compromising control measures against animal and plant pests and diseases.

These efforts, he said, are part of the synergy between the Maluku Provincial Government and Barantin to enhance economic value through the development and export of the region's leading commodities.
