Exclusive: Coronation Street star explains Ross and Fiz's new furious feud

Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street star Ian Burfield has given his insight on the relationship between his character Ross Wilkes and daughter-in-law Fiz Dobbs.
Ever since Ross reconnected with his son Tyrone Dobbs, Tyrone's wife Fiz has been suspicious of him due to his controlling and sexist views. In scenes airing next week, Fiz will be even more unhappy with Ross when he stops Tyrone from leaving the pub, resulting in the mechanic coming home drunk and missing the movie night that he had planned with his other half.
Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, Ian predicts more drama on the horizon between Ross and Fiz, due to their clashing personalities.

"She’s not stupid!" remarks Ian. "She knows that he sees situations for what they are and uses them for himself. Neither of them are false, so they’re almost the same character in that sense. They’re quite tough, and she doesn’t want him ruining what she’s got because her and Ty have gone through a lot over the years.
"She’s wary of him, but to be honest, there are moments when he does show genuine kindness to her. They’re just going to batter each other like two logs sometimes."
Audiences are still in the dark about what Ross has done to Tyrone's mum Cassie Plummer, after he gave her a lift out of Weatherfield. Cassie hasn't been heard of since, and although his character may be a killer, Ian reckons there's more nuance to him.

"I didn’t want to play him as an out-and-out villain because if you get too loud and villainous on a very small stretch of street, it’s not going to take long before people find you out," he says. "So, you try and play it all with looks.
"Me and Claire [Sweeney, aka Cassie] discussed this quite heavily at one point, that I can’t go shouting at her. It all has to be done very surreptitiously and quietly. I’m a big old lump, there’s a lot of timber here, I don’t need to stand and shout and scream."
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
