India wins gold in men’s hockey at Asian Games 2026 after beating Malaysia

India won the gold medal in the men’s hockey event at the ongoing Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, after beating Malaysia 5-1 t the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium on Saturday.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh and defender Jugraj Singh sounded the board through Penalty Corners, while midfielder Hardik Singh converted a Penalty Stroke. Shilanand Lakra and Harmanpreet scored in the second half as well.
Shello Silverius’ terrific half-volley effort at the end of the first quarter was Malaysia’s sole goal as the team settled for its third silver medal at the Asiad.
This is the first time that the Indian men have defended their hockey gold at the Asiad. Moreover, this is the first time that both the men’s and women’s Indian teams have won gold in hockey at a single Asian Games edition.
On Friday, the Salima Tete-led Indian women’s team had won the yellow metal after beating China 1-0.
With this Asian Games gold, the Harmanpreet-led men’s team has also secured direct qualification to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
