Paramount+ Buys British A24 Series ‘It Gets Worse’, ‘Major Players’ & ‘The Ministry Of Time’

Paramount+ has gone shopping for a trio of A24 scripted TV shows.

The streamer took U.S. and select international rights on comedy It Gets Worse, coming-of-age drama Major Players and the adaptation of The Ministry of Time.

Deadline first told you about Leo Reich’s Channel 4 and Crave comedy It Gets Worse in February last year. Reich exec produces and stars in the show, which is about three young people who begin to question their humiliating jobs and non-existent love lives. It will debut as a Showtime original on Paramount+ in November.

Main cast also includes Emily Fairn, Olive Gray, Sean Delaney, Dane Williams, India Mullen and John Tothill, Andrew Scot, Lena Dunham and Amelia Dimoldenberg guesting. You can see a first-look image above.

Major Players comes from How to Have Sex director Molly Manning Walker and Yasmin Joseph (A Thousand Blows). A sneak preview of the series was screened at Series Mania earlier this year.

Another Channel 4 show, it follows two girls on the brink of adulthood who start a women’s football team. Inspired by Manning Walker’s own experiences at school, where crowd control was more urgent than education, the series is billed as “a love letter to soccer and a funny, wild exploration of young people in London today.”

The Ministry of Time is one of the more anticipated BBC fantasy series currently in the works. Alice Birch (Normal People) is adapting the show, with Aneil Karia (Top Boy) the lead director on the six-part series.

Starring Alice Birch and Billy Howle, it follows a newly established government department, which gathers ‘expats’ from across history in an experiment to test the viability of time-travel. Commander Gore (Howle), an officer on Sir John Franklin’s doomed 1845 Arctic expedition, is one such figure rescued from certain death. Gore begins a professional relationship with Sophy (Aiofe Hinds), which develops into an intense and forbidden romance.
