Wunderhorse guitarist Harry Fowler surprise releases debut album ‘Blankets’

Translate

Wunderhorse guitarist Harry Fowler has surprise released his debut solo album ‘Blankets’, alongside the single ‘Perfect Colours’ – listen below.

The record arrived today (October 30) without any prior announcement, marking Fowler’s first solo release outside of his role with the band.

Described as an intimate collection of songs that the guitarist has accumulated since his teenage years, ‘Blankets’ takes a stripped-back approach, combining sparse, finger-picked acoustic guitar with delicate vocals.

The album has been released independently and is available to stream here. Fowler has also made a limited run of just 300 vinyl copies available through his official website.

The release is accompanied by the debut single ‘Perfect Colours’, which showcases the more understated direction of his solo material, driven softly by lilting piano notes and an aching lead vocal.

Listen to the track below:

Fowler is best known as the guitarist in Wunderhorse, the band fronted by Jacob Slater, who began the project as a solo venture before expanding it into a full group.

The two musicians have been friends since they were 14, having bonded over their shared love of Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam and Nirvana while attending school in Hertfordshire, as they recalled in a 2024 interview with NME.

Wunderhorse released their second album ‘Midas’, their first as a fully established four-piece, that same year, with Fowler featuring alongside Slater, drummer Jamie Staples and then-bassist Peter Woodin.

The album followed 2022’s ‘Cub’, which had originally been conceived as Slater’s solo project.

Reviewing their show at Glastonbury 2025, NME wrote: “The London band meet those high expectations head-on with a set that’s searing and masterful, showcasing the best of their discography so far and what makes them such a vital act.”

Wunderhorse have continued working on new material throughout 2026, and debuted two unreleased songs, ‘Kerosene’ and ‘Promises’, during their North American tour in July.

Speaking to NME at Glastonbury last year, Slater suggested that the band’s next record could take a more optimistic direction.

“I’m trying to maybe write something a little more hopeful these days,” he explained. “‘Midas’ was pretty bleak, so maybe that’s the bridge to whatever we’re gonna do next.”

Meanwhile, Wunderhorse are set to support Sam Fender on his huge 2027 UK stadium tour, including dates at Newcastle’s St James’ Park, Wembley Stadium and Manchester’s Etihad Stadium.

Fender announced three additional dates earlier today following overwhelming demand for tickets, with Wunderhorse supporting at the new Cardiff and Edinburgh shows.
