DA sets Dec. 31 deadline for agri storage registration

The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday announced that operators of agricultural warehouses and other storage facilities have until December 31, 2026, to register their facilities.

Registration can be done through the Registry System for Agri Storage.

Under Republic Act No. 12022, or the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act, operators of agricultural and fishery storage facilities, including warehouses and cold storage facilities, are required to register their properties and maintain accurate records for at least five years.

“Registration, however, is separate from certification or inspection,” the DA said in a statement.

The department said it is also preparing a 2027 nationwide inspection schedule, with regions assigned specific periods to spread the workload amid limited personnel.

The registration is intended to help the government address smuggling and hoarding of agricultural products by improving its ability to monitor the supply chain.

“By mapping storage facilities and inventories, the department expects to improve traceability and spot supply movements that could signal smuggling, hoarding, or other practices that threaten food security and the domestic market,” the DA said. — MCG, GMA News
