Orlando Pirates reward two players

Translate

Orlando Pirates have celebrated their bright start to the season by honouring two of the best contributors. The Sea Robbers have named Ghampani Lungu and Thapelo Mokobodi as the latest winners.

Zambian star Ghampani Lungu has been awarded the August award, thanks to his immediate impact following his arrival from Siwelele FC.

Lungu spearheaded Orlando Pirates’ attack during August, becoming a key figure in the club’s forward momentum.

The Zambian international featured in six matches, accumulating 392 minutes of football. He directly contributed to four goals, scoring three times and providing one assist, while creating eight scoring opportunities for his teammates.

His explosive transition play helped the Buccaneers maintain an unbeaten start to their domestic league campaign and reach the MTN8 final.

One of Lungu’s standout moments came in the MTN8 quarterfinals against Durban City, where he produced a dramatic 91st-minute extra-time volley.

The strike secured the Suzuki Goal of the Month award and further underlined his early influence at the Soweto giants.

THAPELO MOKOBODI TAKES CONTROL OF PIRATES MIDFIELD

Mokobodi, who signed from Stellenbosch FC, has scooped the September honour for his influence in the middle of the park.

Mokobodi was the driving creative force behind Orlando Pirates’ midfield in September, stepping up amid injuries to key players such as Thalente Mbatha and Sihle Ndluli.

The 23-year-old, who joined from Stellenbosch FC, adapted quickly to Ouaddou’s tactical demands, showcasing his vision, composure and work rate.

Mokobodi played a crucial role in the Buccaneers’ domestic campaign, helping dictate the tempo and maintain their pursuit of silverware.

He also made his mark in the MTN8, opening the scoring in a decisive 3-0 victory over Sekhukhune United in the semi-finals.

Later in September, he delivered a Man of the Match performance against Marumo Gallants, providing two assists.

The midfielder’s tactical flexibility and control have made him an important figure in the Pirates setup, with the September award recognising his growing influence.

With Lungu and Mokobodi collecting the monthly honours, Orlando Pirates will be hoping the duo can sustain their impressive form as the season gathers momentum.
