Trump Reveals Plans For Post-Midterm Firings In ‘60 Minutes’ Interview, Hours Before Announcing That Susie Wiles Was Out

CBS’s 60 Minutes landed the first sitdown interview with Donald Trump since Republicans midterm drubbing, and a natural question was whether he expected to fire anyone.
“I do,” Trump told correspondent Ross Douthat.
“I’ll be making a few changes. I don’t want to mention who,” Trump said, while he expressed confidence in someone Douthat spotted in the halls in the White House: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Stephen Miller will replace Wiles.
Hours later, it was announced that Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, not Hegseth, who was out.
The interview was conducted on Friday morning, with CNN reporting that CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss and 60 Minutes executive producer Nick Bilton also were present for the taping. A reality of the Trump era is that news often breaks between the time an interview is taped and the time it ultimately airs, and CBS ran a clip of the sit-down on CBS Evening News, with Douthat also talking about the experience with anchor Tony Dokoupil.
