'It is difficult to accept Tok is gone,' says Siti Hasmah's granddaughter

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali's granddaughter, Ally Mukhriz, expressed her grief over the loss of her grandmother, saying it was difficult to accept that she was gone.

"We lost Tok (Dr Siti Hasmah) unexpectedly today (yesterday), and it is difficult to accept that she is gone," she said in an Instagram Story last night.

Ally, whose real name is Meera Alyanna Mukhriz, thanked those who reached out to her and her family following the death of her grandmother, the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir's daughter also spoke of the difficulty of coming to terms with the loss of the woman she affectionately called Tok.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who reached out to me and my family today (yesterday). I will make sure to respond to your messages as soon as I can.

"She left a very deep impact on me and, judging from your messages, on many of you too.

"Thank you again for your messages. They mean so much to us. Please keep Tok in your prayers," she wrote.

Dr Siti Hasmah was laid to rest 6.20pm at Pusara Negara in Precinct 20, Putrajaya. Her husband, Dr Mahathir, their children, and other family members were present.

A state-level funeral was held to honour the wife of the former prime minister, who died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 9.20am Monday at the age of 100.
