TACLOBAN CITY — A search and retrieval operation was underway Sunday for an unidentified man who reportedly fell from the San Juanico Bridge in Barangay 97-Cabalawan here, police said.

The incident was reported at 5:41 a.m. when personnel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 8’s 805th Company, who were conducting a foot patrol on the bridge, saw the man allegedly fall or jump from the structure.

The RMFB 805th Company immediately notified Police Station 3 of the incident.

Responding police officers proceeded to the area and verified the report before coordinating a search and retrieval operation.

Police Station 3 sought assistance from personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard, PNP Maritime Group, Bureau of Fire Protection and RMFB 805th Company in the search for the missing man.

The BFP medical team and the Tacloban City Rescue Unit were also requested to provide medical assistance during the operation.

At the same time, police coordinated with barangay officials and tanods of Barangay 97-Cabalawan to conduct a joint search along the barangay’s shoreline and coastal road.

The search and retrieval operation was still ongoing as of Sunday morning, with authorities continuing their efforts to locate the reported victim.

Police have yet to establish the man’s identity, place of residence and the circumstances that may have led to the incident.

Authorities have also yet to confirm whether the man survived the fall. /mcm
