The fate of Netflix's A Different World revival has just been decided.
Eight days after its premiere, the popular streamer announced that A Different World is being renewed for a second season. In a statement, showrunner Felicia Pride said that she is "beyond excited" to continue telling "meaningful and heartfelt stories that resonate across generations." She gave shout-outs to the "brilliant cast" and "hardworking crew," and admitted that the positive reception from viewers feels "so validating."
Director and executive producer Debbie Allen excitedly thanked fans for getting A Different World into the Top 10 worldwide and said that "the people and Netflix have spoken."
As for what those fans can expect from the second season, Pride teased that there will be "more Hillman, more college life, more friendship, more romance, more Black joy and more HBCU greatness," along with resolutions to all the cliffhangers from the first season. Deborah Wayne will be a sophomore at Hillman College and looking to undergo a "new year, new me" transformation. However, she and her classmates will be forced to confront their past decisions as their future remains uncertain, all while dealing with friendships and relationships.
