In this edition, we focus on Afghanistan, which recently marked the fifth anniversary of the Taliban's return to power. Since then, the exclusion of women and girls has become normalised, with the government systematically dismantling the rights of more than half the country's population.
Annette Young meets Afghan journalist Zahra Joya, who fled Kabul in August 2021, when the city fell to the Taliban. Now living in the UK, she continues to report on the lives and struggles of Afghanistan's women and girls. Together with British-American journalist Amie Ferris-Rotman, she has written "The Vanishing Girl of Kabul", which chronicles her extraordinary life and experiences.
