President William Ruto has presided over the groundbreaking of Kitui County’s first cement manufacturing plant, a KSh70 billion investment by the Devki Group expected to boost industrial development and create employment opportunities.

The facility, located in Ngaaie, marks a major step towards exploiting the area’s limestone deposits, which residents have long viewed as a potential driver of economic growth.

In a statement, Ruto described the project as a transformative milestone that would turn the region’s mineral wealth into economic opportunities.

“For generations, the people of Ngaaie have recognized the immense mineral wealth beneath their feet, envisioning the industrial development and job creation that their local limestone deposits could unlock,” the President said.

“Today marks a transformative milestone as we break ground on Kitui’s first cement manufacturing plant, turning long-held regional potential into active economic prosperity.”

The project represents a KSh70 billion investment by the Devki Group, one of Kenya’s major industrial investors, and is expected to strengthen the country’s manufacturing sector.

Ruto commended the group for its continued investment in Kenya’s economy, saying the project demonstrated confidence in the country’s industrial potential.

“We commend the Devki Group for their steadfast confidence in our national economy and their continuous commitment to driving large-scale manufacturing and employment across the country,” he added.

The cement plant is expected to place Kitui among Kenya’s growing industrial investment destinations, with the exploitation of local limestone deposits offering potential opportunities for employment and supporting businesses.
