Super Eagles duo Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey were in action for Fulham on Saturday afternoon, but could not prevent a dramatic 2-1 defeat against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Iwobi started his sixth Premier League appearance of the campaign before being substituted for Emile Smith Rowe in the 87th minute. Meanwhile, his international teammate Bassey anchored the defence for the full 90 minutes, also marking his sixth league appearance of the season.

Following a tightly contested and scoreless first half, the visitors broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Ryan Sessegnon latched onto a loose ball following a corner kick, firing a precise left-footed strike past Christian Walton into the bottom-right corner.

Fulham looked poised to protect their 1-0 lead through the closing stages, but Ipswich ramped up the pressure with late tactical changes.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 88th minute, just moments after Iwobi’s departure, when Abdoul Ouattara unleashed a powerful left-footed effort from outside the box into the bottom-left corner to level the score at 1-1.

With momentum fully behind the hosts, Ipswich completed an unbelievable turnaround deep into stoppage time. In the 92nd minute, Jack Clarke delivered a pin-point cross from a set-piece situation, allowing captain Dara O’Shea to power a close-range header into the top-left corner and send Portman Road into wild celebrations.

The thrilling 2-1 win hands Ipswich a massive three points, while leaving Fulham and their Nigerian contingent empty-handed after a heartbreaking finish.
