The Kano State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, after suspected bandits attacked Garun Mallam Town in the Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 11:30pm on Saturday, August 29, 2026, when the police received a distress report that suspected bandits had stormed the town and were shooting sporadically into the air.

“In the process, the hoodlums abducted Alhaji Yusif Nadabo ‘m’, the Sarkin Noman Kano, and in the course of the attack, shot and injured the following persons: Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20, all of Garun Mallam Town,” the statement read.

It added that the police, in collaboration with members of the community, chased the hoodlums, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victim and flee.

“Consequently, the bandits abandoned the kidnapped victims and fled the scene. Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was rescued unhurt.”

The three injured victims and the rescued traditional ruler were taken to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

The command said it had deployed confidence-building patrols in and around Garun Mallam Town to prevent further breaches of peace, while a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects.

The statement added that investigation into the incident was ongoing and further developments would be communicated to the public.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the prompt response of the police teams and appreciated residents of Garun Mallam and neighbouring areas, as well as members of the Vigilante and Neighbourhood Watch Corps, for their vigilance, bravery and cooperation in the rescue operation.

Bakori urged residents to remain calm and continue to provide credible information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
