Kanika Kapoor announces separation from husband Gautam Hathiramani after four years of marriage: 'This is my second time for a divorce and that brings its own grief and disappointment'

Singer Kanika Kapoor has announced that she and her husband, Gautam Hathiramani, have decided to part ways. The ‘Baby Doll’ singer shared the news through an Instagram story on Tuesday, requesting privacy as they navigate the separation.

The announcement came a day after she removed their wedding photographs from her social media account. Kanika, 48, married Gautam in an intimate ceremony in London in May 2022.Sharing a statement about their decision, Kanika wrote, “Dear friends and family, after much thought and consideration, my husband and I are going our separate ways. I am grateful for the time we shared and wish him well for the future. I sincerely ask for kindness and respect for our privacy as we move forward.

Love, Kanika.”In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, the singer addressed speculation surrounding the split, clarifying that neither of them had found someone else. She also dismissed reports suggesting that she was unwilling to relocate to Lagos, where Gautam is based professionally. According to the publication, some of Gautam’s friends claimed that he was deeply affected by the separation. They reportedly attributed the growing differences to Kanika’s frequent travel for live performances and demanding work commitments, which they said made it difficult for Gautam to manage his professional responsibilities in Lagos.

Addressing these claims, Kanika told the publication, “I have not found anybody else, and to the best of my knowledge, neither has Gautam. For me, this is my second time for a divorce and that brings its own grief and disappointment. To say that I did not want to stay in Lagos is not true, and it’s so typical – that when a marriage falls apart, the first person to be blamed is the woman – which is unfair. Only two people in a marriage know what exactly transpires between them.

I have three children that I need to take care of. I hope to keep my future interactions with Gautam amicable, as I am not an aggressive person. I think he would wish the same.”Kanika and Gautam reportedly shared a friendship spanning nearly 15 years before they decided to get married. The singer is said to have proposed to him twice, first in 2014 and again in 2020. Gautam eventually proposed in 2021, and the two tied the knot the following year.

Their wedding was an intimate affair attended by close friends and family, with Kanika’s three children also taking part in the celebrations. This was Kanika’s second marriage. She was previously married to London-based NRI general practitioner Raj Chandok, also known as Dr Jaspreet Singh Chandok, in 1998. The couple have three children together: daughters Aayana and Samara, and son Yuvraaj. They divorced in 2012, following which Kanika moved to India. On the professional front, Kanika made her mark with ‘Jugni Ji’ in 2012 before becoming a recognised playback singer in the Hindi film industry. Her career took off with ‘Baby Doll’ from ‘Ragini MMS 2’, which became a major hit in 2014. She also earned popularity for ‘Chittiyan Kalaiyaan’ from ‘Roy’ that year. Some of her other notable tracks include ‘Tukur Tukur’ from Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale’ and the Hindi version of ‘Oo Antava’ from ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, which she recorded in 2021.

Her recent releases include ‘Gori Hai Kaliyaan’ from the 2025 film ‘Mere Husband Ki Biwi’.
