National Institute for Sports (NIS) Director-General and CEO Philip Shaibu has declared his firm belief that Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s team, the Flamingos, have what it takes to win the ongoing tournament and return home as world champions.

Shaibu, who closely watched the team’s local training sessions and praised the final squad selection, noted that the squad’s execution of a tactical, game-by-game strategy has proven their championship credentials.

The former professional footballer emphasized that success in international tournaments comes down to focus, discipline, and adaptability.

According to Shaibu, each match demands a unique tactical approach and attitude, praising the players’ ability to listen to the technical crew and implement game plans effectively under pressure.

Looking ahead of the game against Brazil, Shaibu urged Nigerians to rally behind the team while pointing out that top global rivals have already crashed out.

“We should have butterflies in our stomachs because all the Asian teams have fallen. The Americans are next,” Shaibu stated, expressing confidence that the Nigerian side would ultimately bring home the trophy.

Concluding his statement, the NIS boss called on the players to remain grounded, avoid distractions, and maintain their clinical edge as they push for global glory.
