Police arrest key suspect in Sakumono killings

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, the prime suspect in the killing of two relatives at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra.
The suspect, who had been on the run, was arrested at his hideout, according to a police update on the case released on Sunday, November 1.
The police said further details of the arrest would be communicated later.
The development follows a manhunt launched after the fatal shooting of George Atubiga, 57, and his 47-year-old niece, Irene Atubiga, at their residence on Friday, October 30, 2026.
Before the arrest, the police had declared Osei Anto wanted and announced a GH¢100,000 reward for credible information leading to his capture.
Alleged GH¢500,000 debt dispute
Preliminary police investigations suggested that the killings might have stemmed from a financial dispute involving George and the suspect.
According to the police, George allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto but failed to repay it.
The suspect reportedly went to the victims’ residence on the morning of the incident, accompanied by Beatrice Mumuni, 47, to demand repayment. A misunderstanding allegedly followed, during which the two relatives were shot.
Mumuni had earlier been arrested in connection with the case. The police said she was believed to have led the principal suspect to the victims’ residence before the killings.
Officers from the Sakumono District Police Command who responded to the incident found the victims with gunshot wounds. They were rushed to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The Baatsona Divisional Police Command is leading investigations into the case.
The arrest of Osei Anto is expected to provide investigators with an opportunity to question him over the circumstances surrounding the deaths and establish the full facts of the case.
The police are yet to release further details of the arrest.
