ABC Developing Series About Police Divers In New Orleans From Steven Kane, 20th Television & Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks

EXCLUSIVE: Jack Ryan and Halo showrunner Steven Kane has landed on his next project.

Kane is developing ABC’s Dive with 20th Television and Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks, which is set in New Orleans, a city defined by its relationship to water.

Dive will follow an elite team of police divers and investigators who solve crimes that begin where the surface ends. Kane quietly referenced the show at a recent TV event in Europe, at which point he said he had told ABC commissioners: “If this is successful it could be franchised.” Casting is not yet set and we are told the show is in early development.

Kane is a former The Closer, NCIS and Without a Trace writer who went on to co-create and exec produce TNT’s The Last Ship. He subsequently show-ran Paramount+’s adaptation of Halo and then the fourth and final season of Prime Video’s Jack Ryan. We understand Kane is also developing an international thriller currently being packaged in Europe and a series based on his forthcoming graphic novel.

For Dive, he has joined with EP Kristina Sorenson and the team at Seven Bucks, the company run by champion wrestler-turned movie star Johnson and Dany Garcia. Seven Bucks’ TV credits include Ballers, Young Rock and The Titan Games.

At ABC’s recent upfronts, the Disney-owned network left its number one show High Potential off the fall schedule, keeping the hit crime drama starring Kaitlin Olson on the bench for midseason.
