Power outage to affect 14 areas in Johannesburg

A planned power outage will affect 14 areas in Johannesburg on Saturday, 26 September 2026, according to City Power Johannesburg. 

The outage will occur at Orlando Switching Station and Mayfair Substation on the same day for eight hours. 

“The interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on our network which is part of our program of constantly striving to provide a better service,” the statement read.

Orlando Switching Station will have its scheduled power outage from 9:00 to 17:00 at these listed areas below:

• Nobel Street
• Industria North
• Bunsen Street
• Slovo Crosby Number 1 and 2
• Industria West
• Bosmond Maraisburg
• Maraisburg Road
• Vegr Street Feeder Number 1,2 and 3
• Lowenthal

The outage at Mayfair Substation will occur from 9:00 to 17:30 at these areas:

• Mayfair
• Crown
• Amalgam
• Amalgam Standby
• Vredepark

FIVE SUSPECTED HIJACKED BUILDINGS OWING R5 MILLION

Five suspected hijacked buildings owe close R5 million in electricity debt, reported City Power Johannesburg through a statement. The power utility held an operation targeting the five buildings in Doornfontein and surrounding areas. 

The buildings approximately owe R4.9 million and have been disconnected. “The intervention comes from growing concerns over electricity-related risks in suspected hijacked buildings.”

City Power pleaded with residents to report illegal electricity connections and theft through their appropriate channels.
