The South African Weather Service has warned that severe thunderstorms are expected over large parts of the country.

Tuesday will be cold for most parts of the country, except for the Cape regions, where it will be fine and warm. The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms with strong winds and hail which may result in flooding in six provinces.

Impact-based warnings

A Yellow Level 2 warning is in effect for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, strong and damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning. This may result in localised flooding of roads, low-lying areas and bridges, as well as damage to settlements and infrastructure. Affected areas include the North West, Gauteng, the Highveld of Mpumalanga, south-western Limpopo, northern Free State, and the extreme north-eastern parts of Northern Cape.
