In short:

Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games organising committee CEO Cindy Hook has announced she will resign.

She will leave the job at the end of her four-year contract.

What's next?

The organising committee says a search for Ms Hook's replacement will commence immediately.

The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games organising committee will search for a new CEO, with chief executive Cindy Hook announcing she will depart at the end of her contract.

Ms Hook was appointed in December 2022, with her four-year contract set to expire early next year.

In a statement, the organising committee said a search for a new CEO "will commence immediately and an appointment is expected in the coming months".

Ms Hook said she was "grateful" for the opportunity to see the committee "through the first horizon of Games planning".

"During the past four years, I have achieved everything we had hoped for and had many amazing experiences along the way," she said.

"The foundations of success have been well laid. This is the right time to hang over to a new CEO for the next phase."

She said she was confident the event would be "a Games that all Australians will be proud of".

"I look forward to seeing the Games Vision brought to life and you can be sure I will be the greatest fan in the stands at the 2032 Games."

'Exceptional leader'

On Ms Hook's appointment in 2022, Brisbane Olympics president Andrew Liveris expressed hopes she would stay in the role until the Games.

"I can already tell you from the board, our mindset is we recruited a CEO for 10 years, health willing, God willing and everything else willing and that's the way we're approaching this," Mr Liveris said in 2022.

The committee shake-up comes as the Games moves from initial planning phase to operational delivery, with venue construction underway.

Mr Liveris said Ms Hook had been an "exceptional leader".

"Cindy commenced when the Organising Committee was a fledgling startup and has transformed Brisbane 2032 into a thriving organisation ready to go to the next level of Games execution," he said.

"Her focus on values, organisational excellence and strict financial and governance processes are embedded throughout a high calibre team that she recruited and I thank her for her great contributions."

Federal sports minister Annika Wells said Ms Hook had played a vital role in the development of the Games.

"The work she has done is incredibly valuable and Brisbane 2032 will continue to build on her achievements as Queensland and Australia gets ready to host the world," Ms Wells said.

Queensland sports and Olympics minister Tim Mander said her work contributed to creating a "lasting legacy beyond 2032".

"Cindy has played an important role establishing the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee and laying the foundations for the work ahead," Mr Mander said.
