Residents search belongings after Jerusalem building demolished

Translate

A five-storey building in Jerusalem’s al-Tur was demolished by Israeli authorities over alleged lack of permits, displacing dozens of Palestinian residents.

Palestinians searched through the rubble of a demolished residential building in Jerusalem's al-Tur neighbourhood on Tuesday, looking for belongings left behind.

The footage shows residents picking through the debris. One woman describes being ordered out at gunpoint and says her family was given only a short time to collect essential medicines.

The five-storey building, which contained 10 apartments, was torn down by Israeli authorities over what they said was a lack of building permits.

Residents say they had repeatedly applied for permits and were given little time to remove their belongings. The demolition displaced dozens of people, according to Palestinian officials.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir attended the operation and defended it, saying the building had been constructed illegally.
