KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — A member of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s legal team arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex in Jalan Duta today at noon, according to a New Straits Times report.

Lawyer Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee was seen entering the complex as speculation grew that the RM50 million fine could be settled, potentially allowing the former prime minister to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest.

Najib’s special officer, Ahmad Lutfi Azhar, had earlier arrived at 11.35am.

Lutfi told reporters at the court complex’s lobby that a statement would follow once matters were concluded.

Lutfi and Farhan were later seen entering the High Court Criminal Registry office together.

When asked by journalists what was happening, Farhan smiled and entered the office without commenting.

Reporters have gathered at the lobby and outside the registry office, while police have heightened their presence with barricades erected at the entrance.

Najib, 73, has been at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, after the Federal Court upheld his conviction over the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd.

His original sentence was 12 years’ jail and a RM210 million fine, which the Federal Territories Pardons Board reduced in January 2024 to six years and RM50 million.

Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon on September 18, permitting him to serve the rest of his term under house arrest until August 23, 2028, provided the fine and other conditions are met.
