Exclusive: Sense and Sensibility star praises Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal's friendship

Sense and Sensibility star Bodhi Rae Breathnach has heaped praise on Daisy Edgar-Jones, with the actor expressing admiration towards her co-star for maintaining her friendship with Paul Mescal.

Edgar-Jones and Mescal famously starred together in acclaimed romantic drama Normal People back in 2020, and have been friends ever since as they often post photos of each other on social media.

Breathnach has experience of working with Mescal too following their collaboration on Academy Award-winning period drama Hamnet, and she expressed admiration for both the Irish actor and Edgar-Jones.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the world premiere for the upcoming film, Breathnach said: "After I came off the set of Sense and Sensibility, that's when I found out about Paul and Daisy as a duo.

"It's quite inspiring to see two young actors have that friendship off-set too, because I think it can be hard, when you're working on a film, to keep those connections when you've gone through this big project together," added the star, who plays Margaret Dashwood.

"The two of them staying friends is something that I'd love to do in the future. I have made so many friends that I've kept in touch with even when I've left set. I think that's really important, and it's beautiful that they've been able to do that and keep that connection."

Sense and Sensibility is based on Jane Austen's classic 1811 novel of the same name, and follows the Dashwood family as they are forced to leave their lavish estate as they fall into financial hardship.

In addition to Breathnach and Edgar-Jones, the latter of whom portrays Elinor Dashwood, the stacked cast for the period drama includes Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe, Fiona Shaw, Frank Dillane and George MacKay.

The adaptation has been penned by Diana Reid, with Georgia Oakley serving as director. Following its world premiere in London on Tuesday (15 September), it has garnered rave reviews from critics.

Sense and Sensibility is released in UK cinemas on 25 September, before coming out in the US on 16 October.
