Indonesia eyes US oil tech to reach 1 million bpd by 2030

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry is promoting technology partnerships between domestic oil and gas companies and their US counterparts to help achieve a crude oil lifting target of one million barrels per day.
“We see collaboration among multinational companies and domestic firms, such as Pertamina Hulu Energi, and we will encourage greater cooperation between them,” Deputy Energy Minister Yuliot said at the ministry in Jakarta on Friday.
Yuliot said that during his visit to the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial Meeting in Houston, Texas, in mid-September 2026, he also visited ExxonMobil.
Yuliot highlighted ExxonMobil’s infrastructure and technology, saying the US oil and gas company can analyze 40 terabytes of data in one second.
He said ExxonMobil’s technology could therefore analyze 200 terabytes of data on Indonesia’s oil and gas potential in less than a minute.
“They have supercomputers to process data; it is no longer done manually. This creates an opportunity to analyze data from working areas that are ready to be offered,” Yuliot said.
Yuliot said such technological cooperation would help map Indonesia’s oil and gas potential, supporting a plan to raise crude oil production to one million barrels per day by 2030.
“So we can achieve one million barrels,” Yuliot said.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has set a target for crude oil lifting to rise to 612,500 barrels per day in 2027, from 610,000 barrels per day in 2026.
Bahlil said new oil wells would be added in several areas in 2027, including a well in Madura that will be developed by Petronas, Malaysia’s state-owned oil, gas, and energy company.
Oil output will also increase from wells using enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology, Bahlil said.
“There is also potential for more wells in Sumatra. Hopefully, God willing, there will be no problems with the electricity or pipeline sectors,” Bahlil said.
