Kriyanusa 2026 promotes sustainable Indonesian crafts globally

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Crafts Council (Dekranas) is holding the Kriyanusa 2026 craft exhibition under the theme “Create Sustainable Craft, Artisans Go Global,” promoting handicrafts as part of Indonesia’s cultural wealth and creative economy.

“This theme represents our shared spirit to view handicrafts not only as works of aesthetic value, but also as part of our cultural wealth, regional identity, and the strength of Indonesia’s creative economy,” Kriyanusa 2026 Exhibition Committee Chair Ayu Heni Rosan said at the exhibition’s opening here on Saturday.

Rosan said Kriyanusa is rooted in craftsmanship, knowledge passed down through generations, rich local materials, and cultural values that remain alive in communities. She said the works featured at Kriyanusa reflect tradition, creativity, local wisdom, and national identity.

“Kriyanusa 2026 is here to bring together all this richness with contemporary developments. We hope tradition can remain alive while continuing to grow through creativity, innovation, technology, and the ability to understand market needs,” Rosan said.

The Kriyanusa 2026 exhibition, held from September 26 to 30, 2026, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), features 410 booths and 257 participants from various backgrounds, including Dekranas, Regional Crafts Councils (Dekranasda), ministries and government agencies, and members of the public, including MSME entrepreneurs.

Rosan said the products showcased at the exhibition are handmade crafts produced manually or with simple tools. They carry aesthetic, cultural, and traditional values, as well as specific functions that reflect local wisdom.

A wide range of materials is featured at the exhibition, including wood, fabrics such as batik and woven textiles, metal, leather, woven materials, paper and recycled materials, ceramics, and clay.

Rosan said the diversity of participants demonstrates that Indonesia’s craft ecosystem is built by many different stakeholders.

“We hope this diversity is not only part of the exhibition, but also gives the public the opportunity to get to know, appreciate, buy, and use Indonesian craft products,” Rosan said.
