Man dies after MPV veers into opposite lane, crashes into trailer

SETIU: A man died after his multi-purpose vehicle veered into the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming trailer along Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu late last night.
Setiu police chief Superintendent Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said the victim, Mohd Assfarizal Salim, 44, died while receiving treatment at Setiu Hospital.
"The trailer driver was travelling from Jertih towards Kuantan, while the victim was heading from Kuala Terengganu towards Kota Bharu.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim lost control of his vehicle, veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the front right side of the trailer," he said in a statement.
He said the victim was pinned in his vehicle and later extricated by firemen.
"The victim sustained severe injuries and was taken to Setiu Hospital for treatment, while the trailer driver was unhurt," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
