NUC approves 30 new courses for Jigawa federal varsity

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved for the Federal University Dutse (FUD) to establish a Faculty of Law and full-time academic activities for 30 new undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated 11 September, signed by the NUC Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, and addressed to the vice-chancellor of the institution, Ahmad Gumel.

The approval marks a landmark expansion for FUD, introducing cutting-edge disciplines in artificial intelligence, allied health sciences, legal studies, modern education, and advanced postgraduate research.

In his reaction, the vice chancellor described the approval as a major milestone in his administration’s drive to diversify and modernise the university’s academic portfolio.

Mr Gumel noted that the new courses were tailored to meet the evolving demands of today’s global economy, with a strong focus on high-impact sectors including tech, public health, legal training, and science education.

“This strategic academic expansion equips our students with relevant skills that align with current industry trends and societal challenges,” Mr Gumel stated. “We aim to ensure that FUD graduates remain highly competitive, market-ready, and capable of driving meaningful societal impact.”

With the institutional green light from the NUC, admission into these new programmes is expected to commence as part of the 2026/2027 university admissions cycle.
