Pete Davidson Shares Why Becoming a Dad Made His Career Matter Less

If there’s one thing Pete Davidson takes seriously, it’s his role as a dad.

The Saturday Night Live alum—who shares 9-month-old daughter Scottie Rose with ex Elsie Hewitt—shared how becoming a father has changed his outlook on his career.

"My priorities have shifted in just that becoming a dad is great for so many reasons," Davidson exclusively told E! News in a joint interview with Colin Jost at the Snapple Island Ferry Comedy Show Sept. 17, "but it just made me realize the stuff that I cared about so much don't actually matter."

"Now the priority is if I don't get that whatever job or whatever, who cares?" the comedian continued. "I get to be home with Scottie. That's awesome."

In fact, the 32-year-old has noticed that that fatherhood has had a profound effect on his general disposition.

"It's calmed [me] down," he said. "My eagerness to like—I don't know—be out there very much. I'm just happy where I am."

Jost—who shares son Cosmo, 5, with wife Scarlett Johansson—quickly followed Davidson's comments up by joking, "Counterpoint: Kids will drag you down. Ditch them. Follow your dreams."

In all seriousness, however, the Weekend Update anchor has been a boon for Davidson as he navigates being a parent for the first time.

"Colin's a great dad, and he sometimes sends me videos," the Bodies Bodies Bodies actor shared. "What's really great is just being able to share, like, 'Oh, look what they're doing today.' It's just so fun, because when we met, we didn't have kids. So it's just fun to see the type of parents that we're becoming, and it's a fun bonding thing."

For his part, Jost had nothing but admiration for how his former colleague—and fellow Staten Island native—has been conquering parenthood.

"I'm very proud of you," he told him. "I'm very happy for you to be a dad, and I think it's just you will naturally be good at it forever, and it's a great thing."

The duo were also excited about the fact that their Snapple Island Ferry Comedy Show—hosted on the decommissioned New York ferry boat they famously bought back in 2022—turned out to be such a hit.

"I thought it was really heartwarming—or just exciting—that a lot of people wanted to [come]," Jost explained. "I think I got more ticket requests for this than like to come to see SNL to come see standup."

The 44-year-old added, "I think people are genuinely surprised at how giant and cool the boat is."

Davidson agreed, noting that he "got more requests for this than the 9/11 benefit" he'd held at Madison Square Garden the week prior.

"I'm not even kidding," he said. "The amount of texts I got from this show is...I was so shocked and so thrilled."
