Sokoto-Zamfara Customs boss pledges discipline

The Nigeria Customs Service, Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command, has appointed Deputy Comptroller Haliru Isah Abdullahi as its new Acting Customs Area Controller.

Abdullahi assumed duty on Thursday, September 25, 2026, following a handing-over ceremony at the command’s headquarters in Sokoto.

He took over from Deputy Comptroller Babagana Shettima, who formally handed over the command’s flag and other official documents to the new acting controller.

Speaking after assuming office, Abdullahi expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the management of the service for the confidence reposed in him.

He also commended his predecessor for his leadership, describing Shettima as a “crisis manager par excellence” who left the command better than he met it.

Abdullahi pledged to build on the achievements recorded under Shettima while urging officers and men to maintain discipline, professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

He said, “Discipline and professionalism remain the bedrock of the Service and are non-negotiable tools for effective border security, facilitation of legitimate trade and enhanced revenue collection for national development.”

The new acting controller further charged personnel to remain committed to the statutory responsibilities of the service, particularly revenue collection, trade facilitation and securing the nation’s borders.

Earlier, Shettima welcomed Abdullahi to the command and urged officers and men to give him maximum support and cooperation in carrying out his responsibilities.

Shettima said the cooperation of personnel was necessary for the command to effectively achieve the service’s mandates of revenue generation, facilitation of legitimate trade and border security.

The ceremony was attended by principal officers and sectional heads of the Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command.

The command said it remained committed to intensifying efforts towards achieving its statutory mandates and contributing to national economic development.
