A new “StarCraft” game is coming from Blizzard Entertainment in 2030.

While technically “StarCraft III,” the game will be titled “StarCraft.” Per Blizzard Entertainment, “StarCraft” is an open-world, story-driven sci-fi shooter that takes place “decades after the events of StarCraft II” and is “a brand-new game in the StarCraft universe.”

The original “StarCraft” launched in 1998. The new installment will mark the first mainline title in video game franchise since “StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void” debuted in 2015. This new “StarCraft” game is set in the Koprulu Sector, 70 years after “StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void.”

Per Blizzard Entertainment, “This is just the beginning. Led by Dan Hay, ‘StarCraft’ is early in development, and we’ll have more to share over the coming years, including gameplay reveals, deep dives into the world, and more.”

The “StarCraft” news was announced Saturday during BlizzCon 2026 (the first edition of the Blizzard fan-festival event hosted since 2023) at the Anaheim Convention Center. Also revealed at the BlizzCon opening ceremony was an animated TV series adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s popular “Diablo” video game franchise, which is currently in development at Netflix.

Variety will be on the ground at BlizzCon Sept. 12-13 and readers can follow along with our coverage of the event here.
