What to watch on streaming: what's new today on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and more
The world of streaming can be an overwhelming place, so if you're in need of some guidance as to what's new and worth watching (or not), you've come to the right place.
They’re the spies nobody supposedly wanted, but suddenly the sidelined spooks of Apple TV's Slow Horses are attracting a lot of attention. This sixth series opens with assassins bumping off former members of Jackson Lamb’s (Gary Oldman) team of MI5 rejects. Might there be a connection to someone who River (Jack Lowden) hoped he’d seen the back of? With their lives under threat, the Slow Horses are back in the saddle.
New to Prime Video is Neagley, an action-crime spin-off from Reacher, with Maria Sten taking centre stage as former military investigator Frances Neagley. Set in Chicago, the series follows the protagonist as she investigates a friend's suspicious death, drawing on the skills she learned alongside Jack Reacher; Alan Ritchson also makes a guest appearance.
There's plenty for film fans to enjoy. Made in the grand tradition of dumb, action-packed buddy comedies, Apple TV's Cold War trifle Mayday finds a downed US pilot (Ryan Reynolds) trapped in the USSR and forced to turn to an eccentric ex-KGB man (Kenneth Branagh) for help.
Six years on from the hit TV series, the French super-agents of ASK return in one-off feature-length episode Call My Agent! the Movie on Netflix. And while they’re still wrangling troublesome clients and diva creatives, the stakes are higher than ever when Andrea (Camille Cottin) tries a career change to become a director.
Also new to Netflix is Denis Villeneuve's visually stunning sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two, which continues Paul Atreides's journey as he joins the Fremen to seek revenge against those who destroyed his family and confront a destiny that could reshape the galaxy. Starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and Austin Butler, it's widely regarded as ambitious and thrilling.
A recent arrival on Disney+ is The Mandalorian and Grogu, which continues the Star Wars adventures of Din Djarin and his Force-sensitive apprentice Grogu as they take on a new mission for the fledgling New Republic amid the threat of scattered Imperial warlords. Starring Pedro Pascal, this adventure builds on the events of The Mandalorian series and takes the beloved duo to the big screen for their most ambitious story yet.
