Asian Games 2026: Kapil Dev urges India’s golf team to chase glory in Aichi-Nagoya

Kapil Dev has urged India’s golfers to show a strong display of their skills at the 2026 Asian Games, reminding them that representing the nation should be a source of pride and motivation.

The former India captain, who now serves as president of the DP World Professional Golf Tour of India, conveyed his support before the golf competition in Japan.

Yuvraj Sandhu, Saptak Talwar and Veer Ahlawat will form the men’s team, while Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar and Pranavi Urs will represent India in the women’s event.

“Representing India at the Asian Games is the highest honour. I extend my best wishes to Veer, Saptak, Yuvraj, Aditi, Diksha and Pranavi as they prepare to compete for the country in Japan,” Kapil said in a statement issued by the PGTI.

He said that the six golfers had secured their places through discipline, determination and consistent performances, adding that they also had the ability to cope with the varied demands of the continental event.

“Each of them has earned this opportunity through determination, discipline and consistently strong performances. They possess the talent, experience and temperament to perform successfully on this major international stage,” he added.

Kapil, who captained India to its maiden ODI World Cup victory in 1983, asked the golfers to also use the responsibility of playing for the country to further elevate their performances.

“My message to them is simple: believe in yourselves, play fearlessly and give it everything you have. The responsibility of representing the country should inspire you to raise your game,” he said.

“Stay focused, trust your preparation and play every shot with pride. The entire Indian golfing fraternity is behind you. Go out there, compete hard and make India proud,” he also added.

Although it is a point to note that the men’s trio will be making its Asian Games debut this year, each player has already amassed considerable experience competing on international tours.

PGTI chief executive Amandeep Johl said their selection was a result of their steady form and backed them to mount a serious challenge for medals.
