West Pokot Assembly Speaker Among Nine Charged Over Sh260mn SACCO Loss

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 6 – West Pokot County Assembly Speaker Fredrick Kaptui Plimo and two other accused persons have pleaded not guilty to charges linked to an alleged Sh260 million fraud involving a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation (SACCO).

Plimo, Kodich Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Paul Ywapamoi and Francis Atodosia were arraigned before the court on Thursday, where they denied the charges.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the court granted each accused person a bond of Sh12 million, with an alternative cash bail of Sh6 million.

The case will be mentioned on November 16, 2026, for further directions.

The three are among nine individuals charged over the alleged loss of Sh260,008,100 from a SACCO between 2018 and 2025.

They face various charges, including conspiracy to defraud, stealing by servant, cheating, unauthorised interference with a computer system and abuse of office.

The prosecution alleges that the offences were committed in connection with the loss of funds from the cooperative during the seven-year period.

The prosecution was led by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Patrick Okango, assisted by Faith Koech, Jairus Onkoba, Stephene Mokaya, Gregory Suter, Victor Mamati and Clinton Kere.

The accused persons will remain subject to the court process as the case proceeds.
