WCCE 2026 to boost inclusive creative economy collaboration: Minister

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ministry of Creative Economy officially launched the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026, focusing on collaboration to build an inclusive creative ecosystem that ensures equal access to economic opportunities and benefits for all participants.

Speaking at the opening of WCCE 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday, Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that inclusivity is a core principle in the development of the creative economy, both at the national and global levels.

According to him, creativity can serve as a bridge to overcome economic and cultural disparities, while simultaneously opening doors for more individuals and groups to thrive.

"From the outset, the WCCE has shared a common vision: to cultivate international collaboration and advance the creative economy as a driver for inclusive and sustainable development," Harsya said.

He emphasized that the development of the creative economy must ensure equitable access to opportunities, allowing the benefits of the sector's growth to be felt more broadly across society.

To realize this vision, WCCE 2026 embraces the spirit of "collective continuity," the ongoing transmission of values, beliefs, and cultural identities through collaboration across borders and generations.

Harsya explained that the conference serves as a platform for creative economy stakeholders to share perspectives, exchange experiences, and chart the future direction of the sector.

The ideas discussed are intended to strengthen a shared commitment toward building an ecosystem that is more open and empowering for communities.

He said the creative economy's future should leverage technology and AI to boost human creativity, adopt circular and regenerative practices for sustainability, and protect intellectual property to ensure creators receive a fairer share of economic value.

"A creative ecosystem should be inclusive and empowering for communities, while intellectual property protections safeguard creators and ensure they receive a more equitable share of the value generated," he said.

He added that this vision should not merely remain a document or an agreement; rather, it must serve as a foundation for concrete action and sustained collaboration.

Consequently, the dialogue within the WCCE is expected to yield insights and commitments that strengthen the position of the creative economy within the global development agenda.

Since its initiation by Indonesia in 2018, the WCCE has served as an international platform for discussing the opportunities and challenges facing the creative economy.

The forum has contributed to several key milestones, including the Bali Agenda for the Creative Economy, as well as United Nations resolutions adopted in 2019 and 2023.

Through the 2026 WCCE, Indonesia is once again fostering international collaboration to build a future for the creative economy, one that is not solely focused on growth, but also ensures equitable access, sustainability, and a fairer distribution of benefits for all those involved.

The 2026 World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) will take place at the Kempinski Hotel Jakarta, hosting bilateral events and ministerial meetings from October 21–23, 2026.

Additionally, a "Creative Village" will be established in the SCBD area from October 21–25, 2026, to showcase creative products from Indonesian creators.
