Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka will remain sidelined for several more weeks as he continues to recover from a quadriceps injury sustained during last month’s Champions League draw against Bayern Munich, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed on Friday.

The 25-year-old England international will also miss his country’s upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League encounter against Hull City, Arteta said Saka could begin training on the pitch after the international break, although a return to competitive action remains some way off.

“We’re talking about weeks. Let’s see, after the international break he’ll start hitting the pitch but unfortunately he’s going to be out for a while,” Arteta said.

The Arsenal manager also stressed that he did not want to place additional pressure on the club’s medical staff as they work towards Saka’s recovery.

Meanwhile, Arteta provided a positive update on defender Ezri Konsa, who experienced discomfort in his knee during Wednesday’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Slavia Prague.

Konsa has since shown signs of improvement and could be available for the weekend’s league fixture.
