NCA reveals contractor behind collapsed Eastleigh building

Translate

The construction sector regulator has named Stromax Holdings E.A Limited as the contractor on record for the storeyed building that collapsed on 9th Street in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

In a statement on Friday, the National Construction Authority (NCA) said the building was registered with it on July 30, 2025, as a proposed development on Land Reference Number 36/II/40, within Kamukunji Sub-County.

The developer on record is 9th Street Plaza Limited.

The NCA also listed the professionals on record for the project as Emmanuel Mwangi Maina (architect) and Joseph Muturi Mugu (structural engineer).

The Authority, however, did not say what caused the building to collapse or whether the named contractor bears any responsibility.

A multi-agency team is conducting preliminary investigations, it said.

"The immediate priority is the safety of the public. The site has been cordoned off and a multi-agency team is on ground coordinating rescue efforts and conducting preliminary investigations," the statement signed by Executive Director Susan Rutto said.

On Friday night, rescuers were still at the site in search of survivors.

Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamed said one woman was rescued from the rubble, while one woman who could be heard crying had gone quiet.
