(UPDATED) Ghani elected new FAM president after dominant vote

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan was elected president of the FA of Malaysia (FAM) after defeating Selangor FA deputy president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar in a two-way contest today.

Ghani, who is also the Malaysian Football League chief, earned 20 votes against Shahril's five during the association's extraordinary congress.

He will serve out the remainder of the 2025-2029 term.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Rosmadi Ismail was elected vice-president 1, overcoming Malaysian Malays FA president Firdaus Mohamed and Kuala Lumpur FA president Syed Yazid Syed Omar.

Rosmadi obtained 15 votes out of 25, while Firdaus and Syed Yazid gained five each.

Datuk Saaran Nadarajah won the vice-president 2 seat with 18 votes, while challenger Afizal Abu Othman received seven votes out of 25.
