Jambi police urge motorists to drive safely amid thick haze

Jambi (ANTARA) - Jambi traffic police urged motorists to switch on their headlights and drive cautiously as thick haze from forest and land fires reduced visibility across the province.
“Beware of the haze in Jambi. Please slow down and obey traffic rules,” Jambi Traffic Police Director Senior Commissioner Adi Benny Cahyono said here Friday.
He also urged drivers to reduce speed and maintain safe distances, warning that dense smoke could impair visibility and increase the risk of traffic accidents.
Police also advised people spending time outdoors to follow health precautions, including wearing masks to protect their respiratory systems from air pollution.
Residents were urged to limit outdoor activities unless necessary.
“If you must leave home for work or other activities, wear a mask and stay alert on the road, whether riding a motorcycle or driving a car,” Cahyono added.
As a precaution, Jambi traffic police officers distributed free masks to road users.
On Friday, October 9, Jambi City's Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) reached 452, while IQAir recorded an air quality index (AQI) reading of 593, both in the hazardous range.
In Muaro Jambi District, the ISPU reading stood at 389, also in the hazardous category, indicating continued health risks from poor air quality.
“Our traffic police personnel have distributed masks to road users, including motorcyclists and car drivers,” Cahyono said.
