The Transformers franchise has spent decades building a sprawling universe around the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, and newer characters continue to expand that foundation. Across recent comics and animated series, fresh arrivals have brought different origins, loyalties, and personalities into a franchise that rarely stands still or repeats the same old battles.

Some emerge from stories about Cybertron’s political upheaval and the lasting cost of war, while others offer a different take on what it means to be a Transformer. Their backgrounds, abilities, and personal struggles help these newcomers stand apart from familiar faces without losing the mechanical wonder that defines the franchise.

The strongest additions do more than introduce another robot with a unique visual design or an impressive weapon. They give the wider universe new tensions, fresh relationships, and memorable, individual personalities. They prove that even a franchise built on decades of history still has room for characters to make their mark.

8 Skold

IDW’s 2021 Beast Wars comic introduced Skold as a Predacon who used to have ambitions that extended beyond warfare. She hoped to become an artist, but Maximal prejudice and bullying at Iacon’s Sculpture Garden pushed her away from that pursuit. As a result, she joined Megatron’s ranks, drawn by his promises of belonging.

Her strength makes her a valuable asset, but her confidence is repeatedly undermined by teammates who view her power as a potential threat. Some even deliberately encourage her insecurities, hoping she will never recognize how capable she is. That manipulation constantly shakes her loyalty to Megatron as she grapples with the painful knowledge that her teammates don’t respect her.

7 Shredhead

Transformers Autobot Shredhead

Shredhead debuted in Skybound’s Transformers #17, when Cliffjumper brought the remaining sparks of his fallen clan to Cybertron’s Well of Sparks. The Autobot hoped the ancient chamber could use those fragments to create a new warrior, and it offered the lost members of his unit a chance to contribute in another form.

The process produced a single being from multiple sparks, making Shredhead’s existence very different from a typical Cybertronian's. They initially speak as “we,” then settle on “I,” and recognize Cliffjumper from memories carried into their body. Shredhead goes on to play a critical role in the battle against the Decepticons, aiding key figures and winning notable battles on their own.

6 Gauge

Gauge was introduced in IDW’s Transformers: Galaxies #7 as a young Cybertronian raised aboard a ship belonging to the Reversionists. The faction followed Heretech, a religious leader who believed Cybertronians should return to their planet’s original state. Although Gauge believed she understood her place within the group, her recollections concealed a very different past.

Her understanding of her own history begins to unravel when she discovers a mysterious message connected to two prisoners aboard the ship. They are Arcee and Greenlight, the Transformers who once cared for her before the Reversionists took her away. With their help, Gauge recovers memories that expose how thoroughly Heretech manipulated her past.

The revelation forces Gauge to reconsider the teachings she had accepted throughout her upbringing. Rather than dismissing the recovered memories, she acts on the information and helps Arcee and Greenlight escape their confinement. Her investigation also uncovers Heretech’s plan to eliminate the Transformers remaining on Cybertron, and she resolves to challenge the leader she once trusted.

5 Nightshade

Nightshade was introduced in Transformers: EarthSpark as one of the young Terrans brought to life by the Emberstone and welcomed into the Malto family. Unlike siblings drawn toward games or adventure, they prefer science fiction, reading, and experimenting with inventions. Their combination of ingenuity and persistence makes Nightshade a particularly useful problem-solver within the Malto family.

They are the first Transformers character explicitly identified as non-binary, using they and them pronouns in the series. Their story treats that identity as part of who they are without questioning their place in the family. They approach the world with curiosity, often choosing their own path instead of following standard expectations.

Their search for an alternate mode becomes a practical expression of that outlook. After learning from Tarantulas that transformation can communicate identity, Nightshade scans an owl statue from a favorite science-fiction story. The resulting form helps them protect their family during a dangerous encounter, while their decision to spare Tarantulas highlights their independent judgment of character.

4 Nyx

Nyx from Beast Wars: Transformers, against a multi-color background

IDW’s 2021 Transformers: Beast Wars comic introduced Nyx as a Maximal helmsman aboard the Axalon, a research vessel sent on a routine mission. Before joining Optimus Primal’s crew, she studied at university and worked for Cybertron’s Science Ministry. Nyx had always loved flying, and after arriving on Earth, she was granted a bat alternate mode that aligned with her desires.

Nyx eagerly took a reconnaissance assignment, relishing the chance to explore the planet from above. Her excitement was infectious, but her joyous mood didn’t last long as she was intercepted and captured by the enemy. Her capture put her in the hands of Megatron and Tarantulas, who wanted details about the Axalon and the other Maximals.

Despite the strenuous interrogation, she refused to reveal her teammates, even provoking her captor by suggesting that history would forget him as it forgot the original Megatron. She eventually escaped thanks to Dinobot, who, disgusted by the Predacons’ methods, ended up switching allegiances and decided to fight for the Maximals.

3 Terratronus

Long before Witwicky became a human town, Terratronus served as Quintus Prime’s final safeguard against the Quintessons. After his creations rebelled and sought the Emberstone, he used the relic’s power to create the Titan and charged her with preserving it. She deceived the invaders and hid the stone, sacrificing her freedom to keep it out of their reach.

Her protection was tested when the Quintessons returned to Earth and shattered the Chaos Dome that had kept her dormant. With their attack threatening both the town and the Emberstone’s legacy, the Maltos and Autobots needed the ancient Titan’s strength. Mo thus used the Spark Regenerator Key to restore Terratronus’s spark and bring her back into the fight.

Terratronus initially faced the Quintesson flagship without hesitation, but its firepower damaged her helmet and threatened to overwhelm her. She then linked with Mo and the other Terrans, drawing on their combined strength to destroy the invading ship. Her return helped defeat the Quintessons and fulfilled the great duty Quintus gave her in the distant past.

2 Exarchon

Transformers Exarchon

Exarchon was revealed in IDW’s Transformers #39 as a former Cybertronian explorer whose return from deep space changed the planet’s history. After encountering an alien substance called quintessence, he came back physically and mentally altered, abandoning his former standing to pursue conquest. His transformation turned a once-admired figure into the instigator of the War of the Threefold Spark.

The source of his threat is an altered spark capable of overwriting another Transformer’s spark and making that body an extension of himself. He can maintain three bodies at once, allowing him to survive the destruction of one host and keep directing his campaign elsewhere. This unusual ability earned him the name Threefold Spark and made him difficult to defeat.

Exarchon’s forces operated from fortified bunkers scattered across Cybertron, allowing his followers to sustain a war against the planet’s defenders. He even seized control of the Titan Croaton, a Cybertronian giant of immense scale. The battle shaped Cybertron long before the Autobot-Decepticon conflict, and Exarchon’s name remained tied to the devastation he had caused.

1 Twitch

Screenshot (3363)

Twitch was one of the first Terrans in Transformers: EarthSpark, created when Robby and Mo activated the Emberstone beneath Witwicky. Her twin brother Thrash was born alongside her, and they joined the Malto family to explore their new world. Twitch is curious, outspoken, and eager to prove herself, especially when it comes to competition.

She scanned a flying drone built by Wheeljack for her alternate mode, giving her an aerial form and establishing a connection to the famous Autobot inventor. Over the course of the series, Twitch gradually steps into a leadership role among her siblings, though often acting before they settle on a plan.

Twitch has an innate ability to react quickly under pressure, though her eagerness to act can also lead her into situations she can't handle alone. She is one of the central figures of the show and largely acts as the face of the new generation of Terrans introduced in EarthSpark.
