Reacher Is Less Than A Week Away From Unleashing The Show's Most Brutal Fight Scene

Reacher season four has met with great reviews, and underlined that the show is going absolutely nowhere. In fact, Reacher's first spinoff Neagley will debut right after season four concludes.
As if that wasn't enough, the next series is already filming, with Reacher season five adapting the novel Make Me. In short, fans of the show are eating very well right now, and if the finale of season four is anything like the source book Gone Tomorrow, it could feature the show's most iconic brawl to date.
In the novel's final chapters, Reacher infiltrates the base of the main villains, Lila and Svetlana, taking down most of their men with a silenced weapon. It then comes down to the three of them, with the knife-wielding Lila and Svetlana (renamed Amisha in Prime's adaptation) intending to hack up Reacher with wounding slashes before killing him. It's a nasty, brutal battle, and one that the title character barely walks away from.
Reacher Season 4's Final Knife Fight Will Be Show's Most Vicious Battle
Reacher's latest season has made big changes to Gone Tomorrow and added way more action. In the book, Reacher barely fights anybody for the first half of the story; on the show, he can't go ten minutes without throwing a punch. One passage the show is guaranteed to retain is the showdown between Reacher, Lila (Agnez Mo) and Amisha (Anggun), which the season has been building toward.
The previous series hyped up the inevitable battle between Reacher and the hulking bodyguard Paulie (Olivier Richters). This paid off in the finale, where the two had a battle of Kaiju proportions, but the final fight in Gone Tomorrow is something different. Reacher's blunt force approach to fighting doesn't work, as Lila and Amisha are experts with blades. They're faster, smaller and more precise, and he is at a major disadvantage throughout.
They want to wound and demean Reacher before killing him, and gradually wear him down with slashes all over his body. It's a more sinister, psychological fight where Reacher has to outthink his opponents before blood loss makes him too weak to fight. If Reacher season four captures half of the intensity of the book's knife fight, it could make for the best setpiece of the entire show.
Reacher Season 4 Has Featured The Show's Best Action Yet
Before Reacher's latest adventure debuted, Alan Ritchson revealed there would be about 30 fights sprinkled throughout. It could even be argued that season four had too much action, which was sometimes used to paper over thin plot. That said, the fights, car chases and shootouts it contains are some of the show's best to date.
The fistfights, in particular, have been very impressive, with Ritchson and the other performers duking it out in long, flowing takes that eschew the quick cutting of previous series. Some of the gunfights have suffered from obvious CGI blood squibs, but considering most streaming shows use this same shortcut, it would be unfair to single out Reacher for it. It helps that these sequences are also well-staged and visceral in themselves.
Reacher season four will be the first series not to feature an appearance by Maria Sten's Neagley.
The upcoming finale of Reacher season four will likely take the crown, as the showdown between Jack, Reacher and Amisha should be suitably epic. Prime Video's thriller also deserves credit for taking viewer feedback into account. In the past, it has been dinged for featuring underwhelming villains or action scenes that felt rushed or sloppy. Seasons three and four have worked hard to improve in both departments, with the most recent season having the best setpieces yet.
Time will tell if Reacher season five will raise the bar yet again. That said, Make Me is a smaller, more contained story, so maybe the big twist is that Reacher will go at least one or two episodes without killing someone.
