2 soldiers, 2 others hurt in Himamaylan clash with NPA

BACOLOD CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines — Two soldiers, a militiaman and a civilian were wounded in a brief encounter between government troops and suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, on Saturday night, Oct. 17.
Brig. Gen. Ted Dumosmog, commander of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade, said troops from the 94th Infantry Battalion were patrolling Sitio (sub-village) Bulod in Barangay Carabalan following residents’ reports about the presence of armed rebels.
The soldiers encountered about five suspected NPA members near a roadside, triggering a five-minute firefight.

Dumosmog said all four wounded individuals sustained nonfatal injuries and were in stable condition.
He said troops responded promptly to information provided by residents, adding that pursuit operations were underway against the fleeing rebels.
The military has yet to determine whether any rebels were wounded or killed during the clash.
No residents were displaced by the fighting, Dumosmog said.
The encounter followed a Sept. 29 clash in Escalante City, also in Negros Occidental, that left two soldiers wounded and a member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) Active Auxiliary dead. /cb
