Saquon Barkley is staying in Philadelphia. After a 27-10 loss to the Commanders on Sunday night, the Philly RB said the front office told him he will remain with the team past the Nov. 10 trade deadline. The Eagles are 2-6 and have dropped six straight, their longest slide since the Andy Reid era. Barkley, 29, could have asked for a way out. He chose to stay and help. Here is what he said and what comes next for a team in a deep hole.

Saquon Barkley Responds To Eagles Trade Rumors

Trade talk followed Barkley for weeks. Hours before kickoff, NFL Network reported that Philly would hold onto him through the deadline. After the matchup, reporters asked him about it, and his answer was short.

"I would love to be here. I plan on being here," Barkley told reporters.

He then shed light on how he sort of tackle a losing season. "I don't like the way the season's going, like I'm not one of those guys that's like, 'Oh, the season not going, where we going? Like let's just jump ship.' That's not the type of person I am. Right now, we have a problem we've got to fix, and you know, hopefully, I'll be one of the reasons why we fix it."

The message from the front office clearly mattered to him. "When that message was relayed to me, it definitely does mean a lot," Barkley said. He added that he paid little attention to the social media speculation. He also praised the organization.

"I have nothing but respect for this organization, top to bottom. I really do think they do things the right way."

Eagles Trade Deadline Plans And Saquon Barkley's Role

Barkley has two years and just over $35 million left on his contract. His season has been uneven. Hamstring and back injuries have kept his workload light, and the Commanders game followed that pattern. He played 22 of 68 snaps and finished with 14 touches for 54 yards and a touchdown. It was his second straight game with a score.

The Eagles have one game left before the deadline. They host the NFC East-leading NY Giants next Sunday. And  GM Howie Roseman has a long record of active trading, and he has already shown he will sell when the season calls for it. In Oct., he sent lineman Cam Jurgens to Baltimore for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.

Other Eagles guys could still move before the deadline. Barkley will not be one of them. That gives Philly a veteran leader who wants to stay, even as the losses pile up. NY's game will kinda show if the team can start climbing out of this hole.
