Robert Kirkman is officially returning to the Invincible Universe with a six-part prequel exploring the origins of two fan-favorite characters from the animated TV series. The highly anticipated return is now just one month away, giving fans plenty of reason to mark their calendars and start counting down to what promises to be a can't-miss chapter in the Invincible Universe.

Robert Kirkman (Invincible), Nate Bellegarde (Nowhere Men), and Annalisa Leoni (Invincible Universe: Battle Beast) will unite to deliver the long-awaited return of Business Baby and Big Mildew. These two supporting characters first appeared in Prime Video’s Invincible Season 1 and, despite their relatively brief appearances, quickly became fan favorites. Now, in recognition of their popularity, Kirkman is bringing these two icons back for their comic book debut.

Die-hard fans know Invincible began as a comic before Prime Video adapted it into an animated series. However, the show also introduced new elements to the franchise, including some of its most popular lore additions: Business Baby and Big Mildew. With that in mind, it only feels right for Kirkman to bring these two characters into the Invincible comic book universe, solidifying their impact in the very medium where Invincible was born.

Business Baby and Big Mildew’s six-part origin story kicks off on November 25, 2026, as a backup story at the end of Capes #13. This upcoming Capes issue continues the superhero comic series originally created by Robert Kirkman, which expands the Invincible Universe by following a team of superheroes who work for a company dedicated to fighting crime. Benito Cereno writes the current series, and Mark Englert illustrates it.

From Capes #13-18, readers can follow the six-part backup story introducing Business Baby and Big Mildew and exploring the origins of this iconic duo. Fans don't need to catch up on Capes, or even read the series at all, to enjoy Kirkman's backup story. However, we do recommend checking out the issues already released, because what's better than one new story set in the Invincible Universe? Two!

If you don't want to start at the very beginning of Capes, there's still plenty to look forward to in issue #13 and beyond, as it kicks off a brand-new arc featuring special guest appearances from the Invincible Universe. The creative team includes writer Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, Blood & Thunder), artist Mark Englert (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and letterer Rus Wooton (Invincible Universe: Battle Beast).

In the aftermath of Dinosaurus’ attack, the heroes of Capes, Inc. face an even bigger threat—market competition! That means they’ll need new recruits and better ratings, because saving the day just doesn’t pay the bills like it used to.

So, if you're an Invincible fan counting down the days until Prime Video announces the official release date for Season 5, this upcoming Business Baby and Big Mildew-centric prequel is the perfect way to get your fix of the Invincible Universe.

Capes #13 from Image Comics will be available to read on November 25, 2026!
