17-year-old remanded seven days over brother-in-law stabbing

BATU PAHAT: A 17-year-old teenager suspected of being under the influence of drugs has been remanded for seven days after allegedly stabbing his brother-in-law three times, injuring the victim's back and lungs.

The remand order against the suspect, a secondhand shop assistant, was granted by magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno to facilitate police investigations.

The incident occurred at 5am yesterday at a house in Taman Desa Sri Banang, Minyak Beku, when the suspect is believed to have stabbed the 18-year-old victim in the chest and back with a 14.5-centimetre knife.

A day before the incident, the victim argued with his 14-year-old wife, who is the suspect's sister, at 5pm. The suspect witnessed the altercation but remained silent.

The suspect reportedly returned to Rengit that night before returning to the victim's house unnoticed by other family members.

Upon arriving, the suspect kicked the sleeping victim and stabbed him as soon as he awoke. The incident went unnoticed by family members who were asleep at the time.

Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene, while the severely injured victim was rushed to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital by his mother-in-law.

Police arrested the suspect at a secondhand goods shop at 12.30pm the same day to assist in investigations.

Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed the incident, stating that the victim is receiving treatment and is in stable condition.

"The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means," he said.
