ZAMBOANGA CITY — The city government here has installed three electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the City Hall grounds for free public use.

City Administrator Percival Ramos, who supervised the installation work, said in a statement on Thursday that two of the three EV charging stations were installed in front of the City Hall for free public use.

“The other one, located inside City Hall premises, will be for use of city-owned electric vehicles,” Ramos said.

Mayor Khymer Olaso announced earlier that the city government is paving the way for green transportation with the purchase of EVs for a pilot run to test fuel savings and environmental viability.

Olaso said the experimental use of EVs is to determine their viability and capability, as well as the advantage of using such types of transportation.

He said the use of EVs is advantageous to human health as it is environment-friendly compared with fuel-powered vehicles that emit carbon monoxide.

EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, require less routine maintenance, and deliver fast, quiet acceleration.

Meanwhile, Ramos urged the public to properly use the EV charging stations and take care of the facilities for longer serviceability, especially because their use is free of charge. /apl
