Millicent Omanga Denies New State Appointment

Former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has publicly dismissed reports linking her to a new government appointment made by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

The clarification follows the publication of a Gazette Notice dated August 26, 2026, which listed appointed members to the Board of Visitors of the Shikusa Borstal Institution pursuant to Section 20 (1) of the Borstal Institutions Act. Among the ten individuals listed in the official document was a “Millicent Kerubo Omanga,” named to serve a three-year term effective from August 14. The inclusion of the name triggered online speculation that the former lawmaker had secured a new state role.

Addressing the circulating reports on Saturday, September 19, 2026, Omanga distanced herself from the gazetted appointment, confirming that the person named in the official notice was not her. “My full name is Millicent Nyaboke Omanga… and to the gossipers: sorry,” Omanga wrote in a statement on social media.

Omanga’s public service history includes prior appointments and political roles. She served as a director at the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) from 2013 to 2017 before her stint in the Senate. She was later appointed Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Interior in March 2023, a position rendered void in July 2023 after the High Court declared the CAS office unconstitutional. In October 2024, President William Ruto appointed her to the Nairobi Rivers Commission, an offer she publicly declined. Subsequently, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of Kenya Shipyards Limited in January 2025, a role that was later revoked in April 2026.
