Nwaogu: Supreme Court verdict won’t affect my 2027 bid

UMUAHIA — The candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, for Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, has urged her supporters to remain calm and steadfast, saying the recent Supreme Court judgment in INEC v. ZLP & Ors does not affect her candidacy.

Nwaogu’s campaign organisation, in a statement issued by its Director-General, Barr. Ekele Nwaohamuo, said the judgment had generated different interpretations and urged supporters to disregard commentaries capable of causing unnecessary anxiety among members.

The statement said the campaign organisation had studied the judgment in consultation with Nwaogu and legal professionals and concluded that it did not negatively affect her candidacy.

“Concerning the Supreme Court judgment in INEC v. ZLP & Ors, the judgment has come and gone. There are various interpretations to the judgment. Distractors and paid commentators have interpreted the judgment to suit the whims and caprice of their gullible supporters,” the statement said.

“Our candidate, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, is not affected by the verdict. Our principal is in no way negatively affected by the Supreme Court judgment.”

The campaign organisation said it had also reviewed the judgment with Nwaogu and legal practitioners before reaching its position.

It urged NDC members and supporters to disregard statements or analyses that could discourage them from pursuing the party’s campaign for the 2027 Abia Central senatorial election.

“You are assured that our Senator Nkechi Nwaogu shall be on the ballot of NDC for 2027 elections. Our plans to inaugurate our ward campaign coordinators are still ongoing,” it said.

The campaign organisation urged supporters to remain committed to the campaign, adding: “Be bold and steadfast. We are on course. We are where we are, no cause for alarm.”
