“Show Kenyans Your Work”- Ruto Accuses Opposition Of Lacking Policy Alternatives
President William Ruto has dismissed the United Opposition as a “passing cloud,” maintaining that his critics pose no viable threat to his 2027 re-election bid and describing opposition attacks as fueled by “raw jealousy.”
Speaking in Nandi County on Monday during the third day of an 11-day development tour across six North Rift counties, President Ruto insisted that the opposition cannot defeat the ruling administration through slogans alone.
“I’m ready to stand before Kenyans and show them the work I have done so that they can give me another chance to work. Those others, look for something to do. Too much noise and calling me names will not help you,” President Ruto told residents in Tinderet.
Exploiting Opposition Fractures
The President’s comments come as the United Opposition works to negotiate a unified front to field a single candidate against him on August 10, 2027. However, the coalition faces internal friction, with several coalition leaders pursuing individual presidential ambitions—a dynamic political analysts say leaves the opposition vulnerable to strategic statecraft and internal splits.
President Ruto argued that opposition figures have failed to present a structured policy alternative, relying instead on anti-government rhetoric and counter-slogans.
“The biggest thing they have done is come up with slogans… and to sing to me ‘one term’. Those people will face the consequences,” Ruto said, challenging his opponents to present practical solutions to national issues.
Highlighting the Administration’s Track Record
Defending his record, the Head of State pointed to key policy interventions, including the fertilizer subsidy program, the Affordable Housing Program, infrastructure expansion, and universal health coverage under the Social Health Authority (SHA), which he noted has registered 33 million Kenyans to date.
“That is the genesis of their annoyance. That is where their jealousy begins, but I want to tell them: your jealousy notwithstanding, Kenya is going to move forward in unity,” he said.
The President’s North Rift tour—covering Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Baringo counties—will culminate in the national Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20 at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.
